Background

UCLH (University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), situated in the heart of London, is one of the largest NHS trusts in the United Kingdom and provides first-class acute and specialist services. The Trust is comprised of 13 hospitals, has a turnover of £900m and in partnership with University College London (UCL) provides one of the country’s top biomedical research centres.

UCLH issued a tender to provide their new website solution, the goal being to provide accurate information to support patients, GPs and people who want to work at the Trust. They wanted to modernise the look, feel and functionality of the site as well as consolidate several microsites into a single platform.

Following a formal and competitive tender process, Frank were appointed in June 2020 to deliver the new website.

Scoping

Frank worked with UCLH to deliver several engagement sessions with staff, patients, GPs and carers to understand user needs. We looked at designs, functionality and user navigation to ensure that the final build would provide what users were looking as well as a pleasurable user experience.

Project

The project was focused on a quick delivery time, without compromising the client's requirement for full control over content, functionality and flexibility for future growth. The build included many brand-new elements of functionality, enabling the client to automate processes and manage a complex digital footprint more efficiently.

Warren O’Brien, Digital Communications Manager said, “you guys have been completely amazing… I have never enjoyed working with an external company as much as I have with you and your team. You really have been absolutely brilliant. Every single one of you.”
